The back ground was spray painted on a small vinyl record.
The actual stencil was hand painted with acrylic paint.
Afterwards the whole thing was sprayed with a gloss finish.

Vinyl Fever Part II

These past few days I've been spray painting some of the records I bought. I haven't made an actual stencil for them yet, but I have some ideas. I started to spray paint the backgrounds.

For this one, I glued together four records.
It's similar to a stencil I did last month. (The Boy and His Guitar)

I really liked the way this one came out. I did the same the
same thing to it as the one on top. Except with this one, I
used smaller records instead of the bigger ones.

I had an extra small one laying around, so I decided to paint that too.

You can see the difference in size much better here.
There is still some spraying techniques I want to try out.
I need to buy more colors, and try them out soon.

Last week I bought about 16 vinyl records.
I'm going to paint all of them.

Back At It

I sold all the other Dylan stencils on my Etsy page, so I decided to make some more. However this time I wanted to make them a little bit different. The previous multi layered stencil I made turned out well, so I was riding the wave of inspiration. I decided to try it again on a smaller scale. I think they turned out pretty cool.

The Boy And His Guitar

So I have been pretty busy painting and drawing these past few weeks. Mostly because I've gotten a few commission jobs. One of the most interesting ones was a multi layered stencil. They saw some stencils I sprayed on vinyl records, and wanted something similar. However instead of one, they wanted four records stack together. It's something I've been wanting to do for a while now, so I was glad to try it.


This was the picture they wanted me to make a stencil out of. The stencil wasn't too hard to create. The stencil I created was pretty big, and I only made a single layered stencil of the picture. Through past experiences I decided to hand paint the other layers.


Altogether I hand painted about 7 layers. After I was done, I decided to do something with the guy's shirt. I taped most of the stencil up and sprayed some color to make his Rolling Stones shirt pop a little.


After everything was done I sprayed the whole thing with a gloss finish to make everything look bright and shiny. Overall I was really pleased with how it came out. It was my first stencil with this many layers. First time spraying a stencil that big. What ya think?

So instead of trying to finish the paintings I have already started, I've been too busy starting new stencils. Spray paint is a medium I definitely want to improve on. I watched some documentaries about Mr. Dylan on netflix, so when I thought about what I should do a stencil of next...it seemed a little obvious.

I bought a bunch of spray paints and fooled around with the backgrounds a bit. I tried using different techniques when I was painting the backgrounds. I also practiced doing some drips, before I sprayed the actual stencil.

I decided to do three different stencils, like the Prince stencil,
in three different background colors.

I really enjoy making stencils and using spray paint. I think I'm going to keep going and make more. I'm now sure who or what I'm going to make a stencil of next. Suggestions are welcomed. If you would like to purchase any of these, I have them up for sale on my Etsy page.

Ain't No Party Like A Polka Party

I bought a bunch of records today. I want to start making more stencils and straying them onto the records. If they turn out nice I post some pictures...maybe. Hopefully they bring me a few pennies my way.

Prince, Prince, Prince

A while ago I made a Prince stencil and sprayed it on a record as a present for a friend. I somehow lost the original stencil. A few months ago me and some friends went to his concert and I decided to make another Prince stencil. This time I sprayed the stencil on records with different colors. I like the way they came out, so i might try and sell them. Maybe on Etsy? I haven't really tried selling anything else on it yet.







I like the way they came out. I want to do more stencils. I haven't worked with spray paint a whole lot, but I definitely want to try more things out. I'm still trying to think if a big multi layered stencil painting is too ambitious. We'll see.

I'll try anything once.
