I found a pretty big stash of water color paints in my room not too long ago, and I have been trying them out ever since. I've never really been too into water color. I think it's probably because it frustrates me. I like blended colors. Leaving noticeable brush strokes in paintings is something I don't really do. The first couple pieces I tried doing were bad, but I stuck with it. I've been doing portraits, which is probably one of the hardest things to do with water color. So far this has been the one that has come out best. It's a present for my younger brother. I finally finished it the other day. I think I'm going to try and paint the other four members....we'll see.
Also...Goodbye September.

The One With All The Birds.
So after thinking about, I decided to finally make an Etsy profile. I've been looking at a few stuff on the site, and have heard a lot of good things about it from friends, but I'm still not 100 percent sure about it. It doesn't hurt to try though. This is the first painting I decided to try to sell first. I'm positively optimistic about this. I think.
Check my page out if you'd like, my name on it is JohnAre . Click the link or go to JohnAre.Etsy.com!
This painting was done with mostly Indian ink and some water color, on a 18" x 24" piece of water color paper. It was the first time I tried using Indian ink. I liked it, but it was incredibly hard to control. A lot of people like the crow, which makes me happy because it was one of the most frustrating things I have ever painted. The painting doesn't have an official name, but somethings I call it down.

Look Familiar? -------------------------------------------------->
I started a new painting. It's a little big. I don't know yet if I'm going to go with acrylic or oil paint. I haven't dusted off my oil paints in a while, but I'm scared of what it might do to my brushes. The canvas is 30" x 40". It cost me a few pennies so I really want to take my time with this one. I'll try to update as I go...we'll see.

Thrift Store Findings
I saw this painting at a thrift store about a week ago. The painting itself isn't really much to look at, but it was painted on a 18x36 inch stretch canvas. It was only 3 dollars, so I bought it. I took it home and covered it with gesso. I don't know what to paint on it yet, but I realized I have a lot of canvases in my room...
I decided that I'm going to try to motivate myself this week and paint a lot more. I have too many blank canvases sitting around. I have one painting in mind which I'll start tomorrow. I need to start sketching .

In A Piñata Making Kinda Mood.
My younger brother's birthday was a few days ago. Ahhh 15! He's getting so old, it's crazy. I wasn't sure what to get him as a present. He really liked the piñata I made for a friend, so I decided to make one for him. Here are all the steps
Making a piñata from scratch is very time consuming. So I bought one that's already made from the store.
Next I painted some pants and a shirt.
This is one of his favorite T-shirts from one of his favorite bands.
I tried to paint a similar shirt. It was a little hard because the shirt itself is a little complicated...and painting on the surface of the actual piñata is a little hard. I think it's close enough.
After I painted everything on the piñata It was time to draw his face. I sketched his face on a piece of bristol paper. I drew it in with color pencil. I did it pretty quickly, took about 15 minutes. I'm not sure if i want to spend the time doing a detailed portrait of someone...it might look too creepy.
After that the only thing left to do is glue the face. This is the finish product. It looks a little creepy...just a little.

Another Abstract Update

Four Square
This painting actually took me a while to finish. I was stuck for a while. Didn't really know what else to add to it. It sat in my room for about a year, when I finally picked it up again and decided to finish it. The whole idea I had with this painting revolved around the composition. I wanted to arrange everything so that the painting itself could be hung on each four of its sides. As far as color and subject matter go, the painting shares the same characteristics as the other paintings from the series.

Running With Manatees.
Another old drawing I found. I did it when I was messing around with Indian ink. The ink was a little hard to control, but I'd like to do more ink drawings. This was a pretty quick drawing/painting...I worked on it for about 15 minutes. I think I can make it into something though. The funny thing about this drawing is that the kid at the far left looks a lot like me when I was a kid. Heh.

Greed...Or Something Like That
When I was cleaning my room the other day I found this painting I started about five years ago. I wasn't really sure where I was trying to go with it, so I stopped working on it. I think the idea is still there, so I'm thinking of trying to finish it. I painted it on a piece of wood, so I'm going to glue a border around it and turn it into a wooden canvas. The idea needs more development, but I think it's still there.

Figure Drawings Part I
I was cleaning my room today and I found some old drawings from a figure drawing class I took. I wasn't really sure what to do with them. I thought about throwing them away, but couldn't make myself do it. I took some pictures of the better ones I did. There is quite a few, so I'll split them into several posts, since uploading pictures on this thing takes forever. I don't have that kind of patience these days.
