I Love You More Than Being Seventeen

So after I finished this guy I couldn't just not paint the other four. So it turned into a mini series. I didn't want them to be just plain portraits, so I played around with texture, most notably with their clothing. I'm thinking about doing other bands...Maybe.

I've Just Seen A Face...

So this weekend I spent much of my time drawing. I got some nifty new pens,
and couldn't really wait to use them. I knew I wanted to draw some portraits,
but I wasn't sure who I wanted to draw.

John Lennon was the first portrait I started. I didn't initially think I was going to do
the rest of the band members, but once I finished John's portrait I figured why not?

This is a close up of the drawing. I decided to try doing a drawing made out of scribbles again. It's hard to get a picture of the detail, but you can kinda get the picture.

Paul was the second one I did. After I finished the portrait,
how could I not do the other two.

I really like using this technique with pens.
The mistakes don't seem so big when I use it.

I liked how they all came out. I think it would be
cool to do draw other bands, maybe.

I definitely want to do more portraits in this style.

If you would like a similar drawing of a different band or
artist, send a message my way. We could work something out.

I put these portraits up for sale on my Etsy.
Check them out if you'd like.

Thrift Store Findings

If you have ever tried to frame a big drawing before, you know how expensive it can be. The cheapest way to go, is to hunt one down at a thrift store. I found this big one recently, which was only 7 dollars, so I got it. The color of the frame was really ugly,
but that's why spray paint was invented.

After I took it apart, I sprayed painted the frames black.
It's simple, and in my opinion, the best way to go.

While the frame was drying, I finished the background of this family portrait I was doing.
I couldn't decide on what to do with it. At first I tried to paint it a solid color, but it just didn't look right. I then came up with this design that ended up looking a little chaotic, which I thought was appropriate.

Then, I added the border that came with the drawing inside the frame.
I had to cut it to make it fit. I guess you don't always have to add a border when you frame something, but I like the finish look it has.

After the frame dried I put everything together. The drawing was done primarily with water color on thick water color paper. However each face is done with color pencil. This was a present for a family I know pretty well.
